A chamfer is a right triangle across a corner. Give one leg (the width along a face) and the chamfer angle to get the other leg (the depth) and the face length. A 45° chamfer has equal legs — the familiar "0.02 × 45°" callout.

A chamfer is a right triangle: other leg = leg × tan(angle); face length = leg ÷ cos(angle). A 45° chamfer has equal legs (a “0.02 × 45°” chamfer) with a face of leg × √2.

What does a 45° chamfer × 0.02 mean?
Both legs are 0.02 (the width along the face and the depth into the part are equal, because tan 45° = 1). The angled face itself is 0.02 × √2 ≈ 0.0283 long.
